Sant Kabir bhajan - Sahib Tera Bhed

- गुरु कबीर -

Lord, nobody recognize the distinction of yours.

The soap and water
may wash away the dirt from the body
Will it remove the dirt from inside?
How can it be clean?

Keep the buffalo tied up inside the field
Then, the crops will not be spoiled.
Those who are immersed in bhajan, live in joy
Those who are worried, cry all day.

He who has the blazing flame inside
Have no smoke showing up
If the head is not given up,
how will you know the heart?

There is trunk without roots, Branches with out trunk
Fruits without flowers
Oh Saddho! Listen to Kabir,
There is no wisdom without Guru.

Sahib means Ram, the Truth. World is Maya, False.  But, nobody seems to know the distinction at all.

They think that by washing the body with soap and water, we will become clean.  Soap and water can clean the body. Will they remove the dirt from the mind?  Ego is the dirt, Kabir sahib is referring here.  It has been acquired from outside and sticking with the mind as a stain.

The bull is a symbol for passion.  It is strong and powerful.  It will drag us down and pull in its own direction.  If at all we want to make good harvest in our field, we must tie it down and keep in control.  The field is our mind, Bull is passion.  When it is left uncontrolled, it will be destructive.  The same bull will be useful if it is controlled.  When the passion is directed to a higher goal, then, the same energy will serve the Lord instead of dissipating in lower tendencies.

Those who are in Bhajan, in remembrance, are happy, joyful. Bhajan is a beautiful word.  Bhaj means to resonate.  Whose mind is in resonance with Truth, they are joyful.  Those who are worried, keep crying all day.

When fire is strong, smoke will not surface.  Similarly, when there is a strong fire to know the Truth is strong, then, in their mind, doubts and confusions will not arise.

Kabir sahib is talking about an unusual fruit here.  Normally, trucks will emerge from roots, from the trunks branches and from the branches flowers and flowers will turn into fruits. But, this special fruit is not obtained in this way.  It is not a fruit that comes from cause and effect.

Listen O Saddho, this fruit called wisdom comes by the grace of Guru.  It takes no time, no reason, no method. no effort. It comes just by the grace of Guru.  The Guru is within us.  His Grace only will bring wisdom. Nothing else.
